cranberry farm
All hail the sasumuneash, otherwise
known as the cranberry, a native plant
on Cape Cod. Harvest season runs from
mid-September to mid-December. For a
close-up look at local cranberry operations,
Cranberry Bog Tours in Harwich hosts
educational tours from March through
October (no harvest tours). Cape Cod
Cranberry Bog Tours offers daily walking
tours throughout the growing and harvesting
season (by reservation) at farms in East
Sandwich, West Barnstable, and Chatham.
Self-guided tours at Fresh From the Vine’s
cranberry farm in Yarmouth are welcome
during the fall. Meanwhile, Massachusetts
Cranberries, a farmer’s organization,
Fresh from the Vine
maintains an online list of places to take bog
tours and buy fresh cranberries.

Look at you, all adorable in plaid, picking Honeycrisps at the apple
orchard! (Hello, Instagram.) At Coonamessett Farm in Falmouth, CSA
members and visitors pick their own vegetables and fruits from dozens
of varieties; visit their website for a list of what’s ready. Since 1935,
Tony Andrews Farm in East Falmouth has been a go-to spot for fall’s
cornucopia of apples, squash, and pumpkins. Get lost in a family-friendly
corn maze populated by fun characters at Crow Farm in Sandwich. This
50-acre farm offers pick-your-own apples and pumpkins, too.
